A Dragon Lives Forever
~
Tale of the Serpent comes to a head,
the Id sublimed into an Ego brain;
unconscious Spirit buds a conscience,
the essence for the Soul's remembrance.
~
Strange as it seems, a human being
is not the pinnacle of the climbing Tree;
it's the Animal-Spirit who breaks through,
so I must return to the wild anew.
~
But getting back to nature is not easy,
the mighty Dragon of yore makes me queasy;
amoral Creature of good and evil writhes,
and devours me whole to begin the climb.
~
The Gnostics say that Jesus is the Serpent,
and came to defy the Demiurge's intent;
talked Adam and Eve into digesting knowledge,
to escape the grip of the Old God of judgement.
~
Thus he said to the Jews, John 8:44 reveals,
"You belong to your father, the devil, a liar."
The Old Testament God he denied and defied,
abandoned his religion to start a new life.
~
"Be ye as wise as serpents," he advised,
for he knew about Hermes' rod of fire;
baptism by way of the fiery Spirit
was at the time a common sacrament.
~
Atop the Tree of the "Burning Bush,"
the fire-Dragon climbs and is not consumed;
regurgitates the Star of the Pearl ashine,
Id, through Ego, to the Soul refined.
